The authors of Total War Warhammer 3 announced the need to increase prices for DLC fans in a rage

DLC is an integral part of the modern gaming industry, although some gamers still relate to them with hostility. Especially if the developers, according to the players, begin to impudent – as in the case of Shadow of Change for Total War: Warhammer 3, the developers of which greatly annoyed some players allegedly "blackmail".

The SOC announcement took place in early August, and the players hastened to express their dissatisfaction. The reason was prosaic: Creative Assembly wants to get $ 25 per DLC, which does not add a new race or other plot content.

The complaints were quite noticeable for the developer to make a statement about the pricing policy. Only now the content of this message did not reassure fans. On the contrary, even the largest fans of Creative Assembly began to criticize the studio. Some of them only claim that wine lies not so much on developers as on "corporations".

  • In his blog, Rob Bartoleu, the director of Creative Assembly, immediately stated that "costs" the studios are growing, and the increase in prices for DLC is associated with this. The developer even said that, although "Now is the wrong time for raising prices", Raising prices is "Business Realism" to support TW: Warhammer 3, the content of which is designed for years to come.

We know that any increase will be tough, which is why our prices have remained quite stable over the past few years. The disadvantage is that any increase today will be more noticeable. Now is the wrong time to increase prices, and we have not been frivolous to this step. However, this is the business reality of Warhammer 3 support and ensuring that we can offer additional content for several years that are currently planned. We know that this may mean that some of you are waiting for future discounts or sales. And we know that this explanation does not make the situation easier. But it is important for you to hear us, and we hope that at least this will help to clarify why such a decision was made. Finally, we must once again ask you to stop sending insults to individual team members. No matter how disappointed, these are people who spend many hours, presenting you and your voices in the studio. All our work becomes easier when we are treated with respect

If with the last statement the fans may agree, then the rest of the message was perceived with disappointment and distrust. Some gamers took the studio’s message as a kind of blackmail: fans must pay more, otherwise Creative Assembly will not release all the promised content for Total War: Warhammer 3. Some Internet users found such an interpretation of excessive, but they also consider the statement of developers in an ineffective way to reassure customers.

Other fans suggested that in this way CA wants to raise more money to develop other projects. Or increase the salary of the management of the studio or the publisher (t.e. Sega). This interpretation was quickly picked up by social networks users. This problem gave them an occasion to complain about too rare updates, even those that are designed only to fix errors that are constantly arising in the game. Here, a comparison with the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 suggests itself, who have already released several patches with corrections since the game of early access, and the first full -fledged patch with more than a thousand changes are already on the way.

Regardless of the interpretation, the statement of the Creative Assembly studio definitely did not reassure the players (which the developers themselves probably understand). Just look at "Mostly negative" TW Reviews: Warhammer 3 in Steam over the past thirty days. Of the 1,892, only 36% published during this time were positive.
