The FNTASTIC employee told how The Day Before was created: “Anyone who complained too often was expelled from the team”
The Day Before, ill -fated "post-apocalyptic mmo-liver with the open world", caused disputes almost from the moment of its appearance. Just four days after the launch, the FNTASTIC developer announced that the studio was closing and stopping the development of its products, naming "financial failure" The Day Before is the main reason for this decision.
After the release of The Day Before, it quickly became one of the worst games in Steam: many critics noted that the game is like a shooter with prey, and not MMO.
The Dualshockers portal talked with the former developer FNTASTIC, who told us that the game never thought like MMO, despite the fact that it was constantly advertised as such.
I have never considered it as a mmo project. None of our team knows why they called her mmo. It has always been a third -person shooter with some cooperative mechanics. Not a single RPG mechanic was implemented – the skills were an idea, they were at the stage of the prototype, but nothing more.
Answering the question of why marketing and development of the game went in two different directions, he highlighted the lack of connection from the founders of FNTASTIC Eduard and Aisen Khubtsevs as a stumbling block point.
No one could explain it. Maybe the company’s leaders knew something, but did not tell us. From a technical point of view, not a single RPG mechanical river was implemented in the game. There was no way to put a lot of people in the world or make the world more. From the very beginning, the idea was that there would be less than 100 people on the servers – this is not mmo. No clans, no raids, closed hubs. And so for more than two years.
He further stated that The Day Before was always conceived as "mixture Rust, Dayz and Escape from Tarkov".
The DAY Before was fully led by the Gotsevs, who "made every gameplay and design decision". The developer described the chaotic working conditions in FNTASTIC, where the founders of the studio ignored the feedback with the team and made major decisions based on their own fantasies.
Many good ideas of our team were not taken into account, because Edward and Aizen did not approve of them. For example, voice chat. Anyone who complained too much was expelled from the team. Many stupid ideas were realized, deleted and implemented again, because the brothers believed that they knew better than people who want. A huge amount of time and work was wasted, because the work had to be done and remade.
When it was decided to close the studio, Eduard told the team about the statistics of procurement and said that The Day Before "I failed financially". The team did not receive other information about the reasons for closing the studio.
This dubious game about survival from the very beginning of its appearance on the market had many alarming signals, but people still bought it, and now it has disappeared.
The developer also confirmed the authenticity of Eduard Khumtsev, which has entered the network and has since circulating on social networks. The leak shows that The Day Before sales amounted to about 200 thousand copies and 90 thousand return were issued.
