Details of the canceled version of Dead Island 2 from Yager Development are disclosed
DEAD Island 2 zombie was released at the end of April 2023 and turned out to be very exciting. Before that, the game for nine years was stuck in the production hell. The game changed the developers many times, and thanks to the new Game Informer report, information appeared that it went wrong. The publication spoke with "numerous specialists", working on the game, from several studios through which the game passed.
Apparently, the Yager Development studio, which created Spec Ops: The Line, was partially selected for developing the game because she offered the lowest price. It was reported that one of the problems with this version was that the publisher, Deep Silver, wanted to get a seamless multiplayer for eight players. This entailed many problems for Yager, which meant a significant shift in accents.
According to the report, Unreal Engine 4 also caused problems among developers. At that time, the engine did not fit for a game with the open world. At the same time, it was discovered that the engine does not allow to accommodate a huge number of interiors. The largest problem was the loading of asses immediately before the player. We are talking about the time when UE 4 was still in a novelty; Yager, apparently, was one of the first companies that received a license to use it from Epic Games. But, despite all efforts, in the end, for Yager it came to an end. In July 2015, Deep Silver announced that she was withdrawing a studio from work on Dead Island 2.
In March 2016, Deep Silver reported MCV that Dead Island 2 was transferred to Sumo Digital, which created the Sonic series & All-Stars Racing, Little Big Planet 3 and Crackdown 3 preparing at that time. According to Deep Silver employees who did not participate in the decision -making process, such a development of events has become a shock for them. However, by 2019, Sumo Digital also left the project. She was replaced by Dambuster Studio, which was coincided with Deep Silver in 2014, to adopt Homefront: The Revolution of Crytek UK.
Dambuster released Dead Island 2 on sale on April 21, 2023, more than ten years after work on the game first started working on Yager. Although there is a similarity between the released version and the plan of Yager – the game takes place in Los Angeles, and not in the state of California as a whole, small segmented levels and so on – Dambuster claims that, having inherited the project, it began it almost from zero from zero. Although it is noteworthy that the released version of the game works on Unreal Engine 4.
Despite the fact that Dead Island 2 came out with a large delay, as a result, the game received good press reviews and showed excellent sales. More than 2 million copies have already been sold for today.
